Accommodation description from the host:
The sea shore of the gulf of Mistegna is one of the most beautiful on the island. It merges the white pebbled beach with the turquoise colour of the Aegean sea and a small very traditional harbour. The house is situated on the beach with the sea front at its doorstep. It is newly built and furnished. From the balcony and patio you can admire the view of the Aegean sea and the coast line of Asia Minor.
The self-catering two floor accommodation comprises of a kitchen, sitting room/dining room with a fire place and a toilet on the ground floor. On the first floor there is a toilet/shower, a split level bedroom and two balconies. In the kitchen you will find: a small cooker, a fridge, a dishwasher, a washing machine and ironing facilities. In the sitting room there is a double and a single sofa bed. In the bedroom there is a double bed and the possibility of sleeping another two on the split upper level. Each floor is also provided with its own independently working air-condition.
It is the ideal place for a relaxing holiday. The main village at the side of the hill is a walk away from the house and there you can find a couple of bakeries, a grocery, a butchers and a cafe within a very traditional setting. There is also a corner shop next to the house where you can buy snacks, small essentials and phone cards in case you need to use the phone. If you prefer to eat out there are a few restaurants in the vicinity.
Mytilene (the capital) being only a half an hour drive also provides the possibility of night life. The island is relatively unspoiled and as yet, undiscovered by many tourists. Recently one of the best geological museums of petrified findings was built in Sigri. The island is also famous for its bird watching expeditions with flamingos visiting the salt lakes during the year. There are traditional tavernas and coffee places where you can taste the real flavour of Greece. There are art museums with Theofilos being the most famous and celebrated artist who was born in Lesvos and his work is exhibited in the Theofilos museum in Mytilene. There are countless beautiful churches, castles and monuments, traditional villages and spectacular views to explore.
Lesbos being the island of Sapho the first woman poetess in ancient Greece is an island that has gay life and alot of gay couples Greek and from Outside Greece live together in the villages around Lebos. The gay bars of the island tend to accumulate in Eressos which are predominantly for women. There are bars all around the island that attract more gay croud like in Mytilene and Molyvos (Mythimna). Bars tend to change every year and the trend of where is cool to go also changes so the best way is to ask around when you get to the island. Some great places that have defieted time are Mousiko Cafenio in Mytilene (30 mins drive) which has an alternative scene and Molly's Bar in Molyvos 1 hour drive).
Lesbos island area
Lesvos Island is the third largest of Greece and is situated in the west side of the Aegean, part of the northern Aegean group of islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is loved for its unspoiled character, beautiful beaches, breath taking scenery, friendly islanders, art and mouth-watering cuisine. This makes it ideal for families and adventurers alike.
The island has a character which is different from the other islands with its stones houses with red tiled roofs. Being so close to Turkey it has experienced an amalgamation of Greek and Middle Eastern architecture and cuisine. A stay in Skala Mistegnon in Lesvos allows you to soak up the relaxing atmosphere of the Greek sun and sea. Just 10 minutes walk from Kiparisis Beach Houses is Mistegna a very traditional village where you can experience the day to day life of the locals and sit for a coffee at the local cafenes (coffee house) and play backgammon. Mytilene the capital of the island, just 30 minutes drive, is a bustling centre of markets, shops, bars, cafes, tavernas and clubs. Its impressive castle hosts festivals and live concerts if you are a fan of Greek music and if you are there in August full moon you can also visitit at night time and admire the romantic moonset.
From Skala Mistegnon you can easily drive to Molivos (Mythimna) a stunning village with a castle and magnificent views, Skala Sikamias a picturesque harbour where you can eat in the tavernas and Therma where you can experience a bath in the natural hot spring marble baths one of many on the island. The West side of the island is the home to some magnificent monasteries and the unique 16 to 21 million years old petrified forest, located between Sigri and Eressos. If you want more adventure you could also take boat trips to caves, remote beaches and even day trips to other islands or Turkey from Mytilene harbour.
House Rules:
Check in and check out times are flexible according to arrival and departure times. There is a minimum 3 night stay for any booking. The house is strictly non smoking though you can smoke freely in the balconies and terrace.
Getting there
There are direct charter flights from several countries; England (Gatwick and Manchester), Germany (Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Koln, Munich), Norway (Oslo, Gardermoen), Denmark (Copenhagen) and Holland (Amsterdam). There are indirect flights from anywhere in the world going via Athens where you could stop off for a couple of days to visit the Acropolis and Monastiraki (the old market). Alternatively for a more romantic trip you could also take the ferry from Piraeus, the port of Athens.
Another culturally interesting route would be to fly to Turkey and then get the boat across to Lesvos from Ayvalik, observing the Turkish and Greek influences in both nations travelling from one to the other. You could fly to Ismirn where from the bus ride to Ayvalik would be a few hours or to Istanbul and take bus (8 hours) or flight to Ismirn and then a bus.
From Mytilene you can either get a taxi to the house, a bus (though not very frequent) or the best option is to have a car already rented waiting for you at the airport or near the port. From there the house is 30-45 mins away.
